Stay Frosty

So, after some encouragement and suggestions from a lecturer. I decided to take a look at running a market store. If I am honest, I don’t know why I didn’t come to this conclusion myself, perhaps a bit of the old imposter syndrome.

Growing up in Darwin the only market I knew of was the Mindil Beach Sunset Market. It was and still is on every dry season (mid-year). in my time living in Darwin, I probably went to the market less than 50 times, one thing still stands out to me… apart from the spectacular sunset, it was the range of products on offer that I most enjoyed. The wide range of ornaments and jewellery from across the top-end and Asia always fascinated me. This market has grown to be quite big since it started in the late 1980s. by comparison, where I currently live in North Wales is the town of Mold which has been a market town since the 12 century, and that’s where our story takes us next.

I won’t go into all of the boring stuff in regard to setting up for the market, but I did enjoy the brand design part of it… up to the bit where I have printed hundreds of business cards with a typo but that’s just part of the fun being me.

The market store that I ran, although in Mold where they have markets every Wednesday and Saturday but as this was a Christmas market it was on a Sunday. The day was nice for Wales, although I froze my bum off but that’s just because I can’t handle the cold. It all started off slow but eventually, I had a busy period and according to other store holders it was a quiet day, as this was the first store I have run, I have nothing to compare it to.

Overall, it was a great day and a fantastic experience that I will be doing again, as much as it took months to create my calendars it was hearing stories about some of the locations in my photo prints including from a gentleman who worked on the Llangollen Railway when it ran a regular passenger service. Having the chance to share my work with people and see their reactions to it is something special.
