Cable Beach Sunset

So, since Cable beach has just Been named the third best beach in the world at the TripAdvisor Travelers Choice Awards, I thought it would be a great place to start.

 The Location

Cable beach is located on the northwest coast of Western Australia about 3 day’s drive north of Perth. Cable beach is famous for its camel train and the moonset over the sea known as the Stairway to Heaven.

The story

In early 2009 I moved from Darwin to Perth for work, a few months early I met and started dating a British backpacker and she moved there with me (and eventually became my wife). As she had only been in Australia for a few months we did a few touristy things along the way. And in hindsight, I am glad she was with me as had I been by myself, I likely would not have paid a visit to the beach but as I wanted to show her what I could of Australia we dropped by at sunset.

This was at the end of our second day of travel into a 5 day journey with over 1700 Km (1080 Miles) of road behind us. As this was taking a blind leap in our lives there was a huge sense of adventure and excitement and I think Vicky was happy to be at a beach where you could safely dip a toe.

As much as I am biased about how much I love the sunsets in my hometown of Darwin, I have to say this is one of the best sunsets I have ever seen and by far the best I have ever captured.
