Sailing Into A New Day
A small yacht motoring past Fisherman's Wharfe as the sunrises.
The Location
Fisherman’s Wharfe is one of my favourite places in Darwin, as stated in the photo of the month titled “Fishing Boats.” It was one of my favourite fishing spots although I never caught much. But it eventually became a favourite hang-out spot, which is how we got to this photo, I guess.
The story
At the time I worked shifts that usually finished at about 2 in the morning, and I would often go for a drive to help wind down. Often, I'd drive a few hours out of town and explore the area. This would continue after I met my wife, only now I had a partner in crime. Although not instead of driving we took more time to enjoy the locations. I got this shot, on one of these mornings, when I took her to Fisherman’s Wharfe, and it turned into watching our first sunrise together (again as stated in the Fishing Boats POTM).
The sunrise was spectacular as most are in this part of the world and it was just my luck that the yacht was motoring past while I was taking these photos. I was talking to my wife about this photo, and she said it is still one of her favourite memories.
As a shift worker, I had seen countless sunrises but from all my recollection, this was the first time I had really stopped to watch and enjoy it.
